Breathable BFM fitting Options

With so many BFM fitting sleeve materials available, it’s hard to always know which the appropriate material for your processing installation is. We’ve found that once many of our customers select their initial installation material, they’re not always aware of the other options that may work better or that could also be utilized somewhere else in the facility.

As we addressed last month in our blog about non-breathable connectors, we recognize that there are so many BFM fitting materials available. This month, we’re pulling together all of the breathable BFM fitting materials available.

BFM® fitting’s breathable connector range is ideal for processes that require airflow, but containment of product dust. They are also ideal for low temperature (LM3) or high temperature (LM4 & Teflex) use.  Teflex is also particularly suited to use with more extreme chemicals.

The list below outlines the material, common uses and installations, and key features that may be helpful in selecting the proper material for your installation.

FM1 Breather bag BFM fitting

FM1 Breather

A 100% polyester needle felt breather bag designed for breathing applications such as venting hoppers and other contained vessels.

Key features/uses:

Designed for breathing applications such as venting hoppers and other contained vessels

The BFM® breather may become required as the BFM® connectors create a 100% sealed system.

LM3 BFM fitting

LM3

LM3 is made from 100% woven polypropylene, and is ideal for low temperature environments, down to -70°C (-94°F).

Key features/uses:

Flexible in low temperature environments (as low as -70°C/-94°F)

Perfect for food processing, especially when some breathability is required to alleviate pressure

LM4 BFM fitting

LM4

LM4 is a 100% woven polyester connector used in higher temperature environments.

Atex Compliant: IBExU tested. Can be used in all explosion hazardous areas. (A copy of certification is available on request).

Key features/uses:

Used for higher temperature environments (up to 130°C / 266°F)

Teflex NP Black BFM fitting

Teflex

Teflex is made from pure woven PTFE and can be used in high temperature applications and with either caustic or acid products.

Key features/uses:

Capable of running at high temperatures – continuously operating at 260°C / 500°F with short term surges at 280°C / 536°F.

Can be used on products across the full pH scale, i.e. either caustic or acid products will not effect Teflex.
